Bengali Songs of Kishore Da That I Love

Bengali Songs of Kishore Da That I Love

I’ve always been a fan of Kishore Kumar’s Hindi songs, but recently, my JioSaavn app introduced me to a few of his Bengali gems — songs I had never heard before. What followed was a rediscovery of Kishore Da’s magical voice in my mother tongue.

Below are some beautiful Bengali songs by Kishore Kumar that completely captivated me.

1. Amar Poojar Phool (আমার পূজার ফুল)

Film: Amar Poojar Phool (1964)
Music: R. D. Burman / Hemanta Mukherjee (sources vary)
Lyrics: Pulak Banerjee / Mukul Dutta

The first song that appeared in my suggestions was Amar Poojar Phool. Even the title — which translates to “The Flowers of My Worship” — sounded poetic and intriguing.

The song begins at a slow pace, creating a gentle, devotional atmosphere. Kishore Da’s voice blooms beautifully as the melody progresses. It’s one of those tracks that make you close your eyes and simply drift with the flow.

2. Ore Mon Pagol (ওরে মন পাগল)

Film: Banaphool / Dolon Chapa (1973)
Music: Sudhin Dasgupta / Kanu Bhattacharya
Lyrics: Gauriprasanna Mazumder / Shankar Ghosh

The moment I heard the swarmandal at the start of Ore Mon Pagol, I knew I was going to love it. The song calls out to the “crazy” heart that keeps chasing luxuries and illusions.

Ore mon pagol tui keno kende moris,
Parosh pathor khojte giye bari bari haarish.

Despite its philosophical theme, the melody is deeply soothing, and Kishore Da’s rendition is pure perfection.

3. Amar Ei Kantha Bhore (আমার এই কণ্ঠ ভরে)

Film: Jibon Maron (1983)
Music: Hemanta Mukherjee
Lyrics: Pulak Banerjee

This song immediately became one of my favorites. I particularly love how Kishore Da effortlessly transitions to higher notes in the interludes.

Nijeke lukie rekhe, noyoner adale theke
Thakona jatoi sudoore, rekhechi maner gobhire

4. Tomar Badi’r Samne Diye (তোমার বাড়ির সামনে দিয়ে)

Film: Agnishwar (1975)
Music: Hemanta Mukherjee
Lyrics: Pulak Banerjee

From the very first line, I was hooked. The low-pitched middle verse in Kishore Da’s voice feels almost magical — melancholy yet deeply satisfying.

Tomar badir samne diye, amar maron jatra je din jaabe
Tumi baranda te dariye theko, shesh dekhata dekhte paabe

5. Anek Jamano Byatha (অনেক জমানো ব্যথা)

Film: Parabat Priya (1983)
Music: Ajoy Das
Lyrics: Pulak Banerjee

A slow and emotional track famous for Kishore Kumar’s soft and touching voice. It expresses deep feelings of old sorrow and pain — a timeless classic.

6. Jibon Anko Take Jani Na (জীবন অঙ্ক টাকে জানি না)

Film: Channachara (1987)
Music: Mrinal Bandopadhyay
Lyrics: Shibdas Bandyopadhyay & Tapash Dutta

The song compares life to a difficult math problem. With its sad tune and Kishore Da’s touching voice, it beautifully expresses feelings of emptiness and heartbreak.

Discovering these songs has been a beautiful musical journey. Each one showcases a different shade of Kishore Kumar’s artistry — from devotional calm to philosophical reflection and romantic melancholy.

I’m grateful to JioSaavn for unearthing these treasures — and I can’t wait to explore more of Kishore Da’s Bengali classics.

💙 Kishore Da forever 💙
