Most Tragic Song from Zindagi aur Toofan by Mukesh

How did I discover this song ?

Most Tragic Song from Zindagi aur Toofan by Mukesh
About a decade ago, I had purchased a CD which had Hot Songs of Mukesh. I used to listen to my favorites from the record untill one day my Father told me to play Ek Hasrat Thi Ke Aanchal Ka Mujhe Pyaar Mile. To my surprise I wondered how come I never  listened to this one ?

Why Ek Hasrat Thi Ke Aanchal Ka Mujhe Pyaar Mile is so special ?
Well, its lyrics which are in the form a Tragic Shayari written by Mr Ram Avatar Tyagi full of struggle makes it so special.
Most Tragic Song from Zindagi aur Toofan by Mukesh

Lets deep dive into its lyrics as per my personal comprehension.
Ek Hasrat Thi Ke Aanchal Ka Mujhe Pyaar Mile
Maine manzil ko talaasha mujhe baazaar mile.
Zindagi aur bataa tera iraada kya hai ?

The writer says that he had a wish to feel loved by his mother or in the mother's lap but what he could finally find was only a market where unconditional love does not exist. He also asks a question from his life as to what else is the motive of his life towards him ? He consider himself different from his life.

Mujhko paida kiyaa sansaar mein do laashon ne
Aur barbaad kiya qaum ke ayyashon ne
Tere daaman mein bata maut se zyadaa kya hai ?
Zindagi aur bataa tera iraada kya hai ?

In this paragraph the writer is explaining how he was born. He says that he was given birth by two dead bodies and while he was growing up he was exploited by the people of this world. I strongly feel that the person saying this has been through a lot of pain in his life.
He also again questions his life asking - What else do you (his Life) have in your store except death for me? Oh Life, tell me what else is your motive towards me ?

The writer of the song doesn't seem to be happy from his life maybe because he has been through immense troubles and pain and he realizes that there is nothing much in life except (finally) death.

Jo bhi tasveer banaata hoon bigad jaati hai
Dekhte dekhte duniya hi ujad jaati hai
Meri kashti tera toofan se waada kya hai ?
Zindagi aur bataa tera iraada kya hai ?

Now this paragraph is so close to my heart. I think everyone who has been through struggles in his life can easily relate with this. Let me explain it for you. He says, whenever he tries to make a portrait, it gets spoilt and within no time his world gets destroyed. He now asks, the boat which he is travelling in through life, if it has a secret pact with the cyclone ?

Can you imagine this? How someone can be so tired of life that he feels as if this life is a  conspiracy against him, but the writer of this song does.

Tune jo dard diya uski qasam khaata hoon
Itna zyada hai ki ehsaan se dabaa jaata hoon
Meri taqdeer bata aur taqaaza kya hai ?

Now the writer gives a taunt to his destiny. He says that he swears that he is so grateful for all the pain and troubles that his destiny had gifted him. Now he asks his destiny if it demands anything else from him ?

Just think how can someone taunt his destiny this way?

Maine jazbaat ke sang khelte daulat dekhi
Apni aankhon se muhabbat ki tajaarat dekhi
Aisi duniya mein mere waaste rakha kya hai ?

He says that he has seen feelings as a puppet in the hands of wealth and he has also witnessed love getting traded from his own eyes, what does such kind of pathetic world provide him with ? He considers this world just worthless and doesn't wish to belong here.

Aadmi chaahe toh taqdeer badal saktaa hai
Apni duniya ki wo tasveer badal sakta hai
Aadmi soch toh le uska iraada kya hai !

After so many tragic and painful lines of this lyrics the writer finally closed the song on a positive note stating that a Man if desires, can surely change his destiny and the world around him, all he needs is determination to do so.

My personal take from this song is positive as it shows us the reality of life and this worlds and also teaches us what to expect and what not to from this world and finally it motivates us to be determined and be a successful individual against all adds.
